JERED :

  • JERED is a multifile text mode programming editor for *nix systems.
  • JERED, while being particularly easy to use, is also very powerful, some of its features are :
    • It is EASY TO LEARN AND TO USE
    • You can edit several files at a time, switching from one to another with a single key
    • Infos on the files being edited are always on the screen
    • The user interface is easily configurable (colors, help, etc...)
    • The C and C++ language syntax is highlighted
    • Five languages are supported for the user interface :
      • English
      • French
      • Spanish
      • Finnish
      • Russian
    • You can record and play macros
    • You can edit macros because they are text files too
    • Most of the actions are available through an unique key
    • All the keys are remappable to anything (text, actions, macros)
    • The help is dynamically generated according to the key mappings
    • Automatic save of modified files is available and configurable
    • You can choose a locking method for our opened files
    • Backup copies of saved files can be made
    • Automatic programmers' help browsing in man or info which are both available from a single keystroke
    • Dynamic screen size recognition (xterm ...)
  • JERED is currently not modified very often, because it serves all my needs perfectly. I use it every day, all day long, since its birth in 1994, for programming or system administration, and I've never lost my work
